One of my favourite 20th Century Swedish painters, Sven Johansson (1916-90). This is signed and dated 1954 but still as fresh today as any contemporary painting. Clearly painted en plein air watching the fishermen sitting by their boats it has an immediacy and economy of execution that brings it to life. In its original 1950s painted pine frame.
