Poul Bille-Holst was a well known Danish painter
He studied at the Royal Art Academy in Denmark and married the Swedish sculptress Countess Sofia-Louise Wachtmeister-Johannishus. He studied in Paris under the Brazilian Pedro Araujo. He represented Denmark in the painting category at the 1936 Olympic Games.
Bille-Holst became one of the most important Scandinavian modernists of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) style.
One of the timeless Parisian tourist attractions 'Les Bouquinistes' is a perennial favourite amongst plein air painters along the Seine. This scene in oils has it all, a book seller, a gendarme and the distant Notre Dame.
