In his day, in Mid-century Spain, Carbonell was considered one of his country's finest contemporary portrait painters. Known as an artist of great sensitivity who focused on the female figure. His later work can drift into the chocolate box zone but this is much edgier, a nice early work that shows off the talent that earned him a national reputation in 1940s Spain.
