20th Century Swedish School ‘Bullfight’

An original oil painting by an unknown Swedish artist working in the mid-20th Century. Signed and dated 1959.

A contentious subject, certainly not everyone's cup of tea but by the number of bull fighting images on the market it fascinated many 20th Century artists, not least the Swedes. The colour, drama, danger and ultimately violence is captured in thousands of paintings of the period. 

We have sold many images of Matadors over the years but here the artist doesn't shrink from the gore, capturing a grim moment that may indicate his feelings about the spectacle he records. 

We've kept the original fine linen frame but there is foxing and staining on the lower right which might necessitate reframing to taste.
