If a bid is placed in the last few minutes before the lot end time, the clock will extend by two minutes to allow bidding to continue.

The best way to bid is to place the maximum you would be willing to spend and let the computer do the rest. If no one else places a bid, you will win the lot for the reserve. If other bids are placed, the system will raise your bid amount to the increment above the next highest bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded. This is called proxy bidding. This is, visually at least, a classic Modern British painting. The subject of beach detritus on a shoreline occurs constantly in post war British art and often as a metaphor for the desolation of the Second War. Of course it could also just be the artist having a day at the beach.
