I don't know Taormina but I'm guessing this street hasn't changed much since this was painted in 1931.
The umbers, reds and oranges really convey the heat of the place, a really fine study, clearly painted on the spot by a professional of some note.
Google tells me that Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theatre still used today. Near the theatre, cliffs drop to the sea forming coves with sandy beaches.
