If a bid is placed in the last few minutes before the lot end time, the clock will extend by two minutes to allow bidding to continue.

The best way to bid is to place the maximum you would be willing to spend and let the computer do the rest. If no one else places a bid, you will win the lot for the reserve. If other bids are placed, the system will raise your bid amount to the increment above the next highest bid, until your maximum bid is exceeded. This is called proxy bidding. A traditional Scandinavian subject, sailing vessels moored in a harbour, seen through a collection of timber and iron rooved Fishermen's sheds. The frame is probably older than the painting and re-used by the artist who has also roughly recoloured it - a work of art in itself!

A nice quality oil, has the usual wear commensurate with age but no significant damage. Indistinctly signed but clearly a professional hand.
